This website
offers paid assistance in
educating
yourself about emotions.
As a psychotherapist, I
do this every hour of my working life. It has long occurred
to me
that getting educated about emotions has great value apart from the specific
role it
plays in psychotherapy. With the existence of this
wonderful development called the
internet,
it's now possible to offer
this service to
interested individuals as
a
self-development or
self-improvement experience, in a very cost-effective manner.
WHAT
EMOTIONAL
EDUCATION IS
"Emotional education" as I am
offering it consists of a structured process of instruction
--
including reading, discussion, question and answer, and "homework
assignments" -- similar to any online school or college
course, EXCEPT
THAT:
-- It is open-ended, rather than having a set finishing time.
--
There are no grades, other than your own satisfaction.
--
There is no final exam.
--
There are no deadlines.
--
All "homework" and "assignments" are actually completely
optional.
-- You don't have to do anything you don't want to do.
--
You don't have to work any harder than you want to.
--
You can quit at any time, and re-start at any time, with no
penalty.
THE
CORE CURRICULUM
There is
a "core curriculum" to
this approach to emotional education, in the sense that in my opinion
any adult human who considers him- or herself to be "emotionally
educated" must, at a minimum, be
able to do the following:
--
recognize the reality of emotions.
-- notice
and identify (label) emotional reactions in self.
-- notice and identify (label) emotional
reactions in others.
-- be
able to engage in discussion of emotional subjects, when needed.
Therefore
these skills will be a focus of attention in this educational program.
-- I will also offer specific guidance on
particular subjects,
understood from an
emotional perspective, for a small additional fee.

WHAT
YOU CAN GET
OUT OF IT
Some of
the benefits include:
a consistent, self-validating system for
living
successfully
improved chances of being happy
an
improved understanding of yourself
an
improved understanding of other people
improved
relationships with other people
a better
understanding of motivation
increased wisdom
you will also make yourself unusual,
since hardly
anybody pays attention to
emotions in a serious,
systematic way.
plus, learning about emotions makes an
excellent hobby.

Q: How do I know this stuff is true?
A: You don't
know it's true. Everything I say here is my opinion, though it's based on my training,
education, and decades of experience.
Your attitude should be, "I will test
these statements
against my own experience and see whether I end up agreeing
with them or not."
Q: What happens if I don't make my payment by the first of a
month?
A: I'll allow up to the 7th of each month for payment to
arrive at my account.
After that, I will
shut off access.
Q: What if I make up the late payment?
A: Your access will be restored immediately with no penalty.

there wasn't enough
business to justify it. If business picks up enough I will set
that up again.)

A note to other professionals:
Everything I am presenting here
is, as far as I am aware, consistent with mainstream psychodynamic
psychiatry and the DSM, as well as ethical and legal standards in the
state of Maryland. All of this information is available from
other sources, if anyone chooses to pursue it. While
I
recognize (as I tried to make clear on my other website, IJustWantToBeHappy.com)
that there may be some risk in suggesting people pay attention to
emotional realities, I believe the potential benefits --
on average, over time -- will be far greater than any distress.
I am
alert -- as a professional
responsibility -- for any signals of danger or distress, and strongly advocate
seeking appropriate treatment when it seems indicated.
